NFL reporter Jay Glazer says comments on Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger got ‘pulled way out of whack’

On Tuesday, FOX NFL Sunday insider Jay Glazer opened his NFL Mailbag on The Athletic with a lengthy explanation about comments he made about Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

Glazer said that his statement about Roethlisberger got ‘pulled way out of whack’. He stood by his initial yoga-golf-beer comments but also said that that was how Roethlisberger used to approach fitness or lack thereof.

In a recent NFL Mailbag via The Athletic, here’s how Glazer responded to a fan when asked if the Steelers will be competitive if Roethlisberger is back to “85% fitness”:

“First of all, let’s not put the words fitness and Ben Roethlisberger together, they are allergic to each other. There is no fitness in Ben Roethlisberger. His idea of a great off-season workout program is doing one yoga session, playing golf, and drinking some beer. However, yes, what Mike Tomlin and Roethlisberger have done there has been incredible. Mike Tomlin has never had a losing season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. I want fans of other cities to realize that. Never had a losing season since he’s been with Pittsburgh. Despite injuries and they are obviously not the most aggressive team when it comes to free agency, having Le’Veon Bell holding out, the Antonio Brown situation, it’s incredible. He’s changed coordinators, gone through offensive coaches, defensive coordinators, but the dude has never had a losing season. Don’t sleep on them ever.”

Glazer continued, “Is he a Hall of Famer? Absolutely, 100%, no doubt about it. Is he Jack LaLanne? No.”

He went on to say that he wanted to clarify that his comments weren’t aimed at Roethlisberger’s commitment to rehab. Glazer knows that the quarterback has been working hard to come back better and stronger than before the injury.

On Tuesday’s “The Jason Smith Show,” Glazer said he received a call from Roethlisberger’s agent saying that the QB was upset about the comments Glazer made. Glazer phoned Roethlisberger without an answer, but when he called him back, the two hashed things out.

According to Glazer, he and Roethlisberger are longtime friends and that they “often bust each other’s balls”.
