BUFFALO, N.Y. _ The National Football League quickly rebutted a report that the Steelers might have illegally tampered with football in last week's game against the Giants.
According to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, the Giants alerted the NFL last week that the Steelers might have deflated footballs. Glazer reported Sunday the Giants tested two balls that made their way to their sideline during the game and later sent them to the NFL for testing of PSI levels.
The Steelers declined comment on the report, but the NFL quickly issued a statement: "The officiating game ball procedures were followed and there were no chain of command issues. All footballs were in compliance and no formal complaint was filed by the Giants with our office."
The NFL went through a prolonged controversy when the Indianapolis Colts accused the New England Patriots of deflating footballs in the 2015 AFC championship game. Tom Brady served a four-game suspension this season after a year's worth of appeals.
One thing the NFL has changed since the Patriots were accused of deflating football is game officials are now always in control of balls before the game.
