NFL power rankings: Rams stay put despite beating NFL-leading Cardinals on road

Apparently the biggest regular-season win of Sean McVay’s career wasn’t enough to earn the Rams any sort of bump in this week’s power rankings. Despite beating the Cardinals, who had the best record in the NFL at 10-2, the Rams stayed put in the top 10 and didn’t move even one spot.

Nick Wojton of Touchdown Wire kept them locked in at No. 7, one spot behind the Titans, who are also 9-4. But even though the Titans beat the Rams earlier this season, there probably isn’t any team in the league that would rather face the Rams than the Titans right now.

Here’s what Wojton wrote about the Rams after their 30-23 win over the Cardinals.

In a battle of top teams, the Rams remained relevant in the NFC West race, topping the Cardinals 30-23 on Monday night. QB Matthew Stafford threw for 287 yards and three touchdowns and the Los Angeles defense held off a late push from Arizona. DT Aaron Donald provided the cherry on top with the game-ending sack, one of his three.

At the top of the list this week is Tampa Bay, followed by the Packers, Chiefs, Cardinals and Patriots. The Cardinals were first in the power rankings last week, so the Rams knocked off the top team on Touchdown Wire’s list.

Ultimately, power rankings don’t determine playoff seeding and right now, the Rams are fifth in the NFC with room to move up if they can beat the Seahawks, Vikings, Ravens and 49ers.
