NFL power rankings: Rams only move up 1 spot after win vs. Seahawks

Following their 37-20 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4, the Los Angeles Rams dropped precipitously in NFL power rankings. At Touchdown Wire, Nick Wojton pushed them down from No. 1 to 8, given the lopsided nature of the defeat.

But the Rams bounced back nicely against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5, winning 26-17 on the road in a difficult environment. It was yet another statement win by Los Angeles, improving the team’s overall record to 4-1.

Yet, despite that impressive victory, the Rams didn’t move up much in this week’s power rankings. The Rams improved from No. 8 to 7 entering Week 6, making them the second-lowest-ranked 4-1 team in the NFL.

Roberts Woods had an impressive 12 catch, 150-yard outing on Thursday for the Rams, displaying that their offense continues to only get stronger even with quarterback Matthew Stafford having an injured finger. Speaking of which, the Seahawks did keep this one a bit closer than some would have thought considering Wilson went down with an injury of his own and Smith came in.

The reason for the Rams’ mild improvement in the rankings is that everyone above them also won in Week 5. The top four remained unchanged, with the Bills, Buccaneers, Cardinals and Packers making up that group, while the Cowboys jumped two spots from No. 7 to 5 after their big win over the Giants.

The Rams have a favorable schedule coming up against the Giants, Lions and Texans, so as long as they keep winning, they’ll continue to establish themselves as one of the teams to beat.
