NFL playoffs: 9 bold predictions for the Divisional round

Divisional round games are on tap. Some sweet matchups as eight teams vie for the final four spots on the road to the Super Bowl.

Henry will not rush for 100 yards

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Derrick Henry has been unstoppable, rushing for more than 100 yards in six of his last seven games. The fun run and games stop against Baltimore’s tough defense. Don’t expect the former Heisman winner from Alabama to reach triple figures against the Ravens, who will slow him down.

Ravens’ Jackson will show some rust

Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Don’t be stunned if it takes some time for Lamar Jackson to kick into gear against the Tennessee Titans. It was probably a wise decision to keep the likely MVP out of Week 17 but he will have not played in three weeks when the Divisional round kicks off. It may take a drive or two before he hits overdrive.

Cousins’ magic will end at one game

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

The outpouring of love after Kirk Cousins delivered a big game as Minnesota downed New Orleans was predictable. Nothing like finding seats on a bandwagon that was a downbound train for so long. The negativity was uncalled for but this is a bully social media world. So, don’t be shocked when the San Francisco 49ers stymie the Vikings’ quarterback and people jump off as quickly as they jumped on it.

Wilson will outduel Rodgers

Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Seahawks are banged up and always seem ready to head into their offseason. Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson do not let it happen. And it will not happen on the Frozen Tundra. Call it a hunch but the Packers feel like a vulnerable home team. Simply not sold on them as a 13-3 squad. Prepare for Wilson to outduel Aaron Rodgers in a game that will be less than thrilling …

Lynch will find the end zone

… One of the reasons Seattle will advance is Marshawn Lynch, who will prove to be one of the most brilliant signings in a long while. Look for Beast Mode to find the end zone and be a powerful part of Seattle’s road to the NFC Championship Game.

Kittle will go for more than 100 yards

 Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

Jimmy Garoppolo has one of the biggest weapons going in his tight end, George Kittle. Minnesota will have its hands full trying to stop the former Iowa star and he will make a big play or two and eventually be over the century mark.

Mahomes will throw for 300 and 3 TDs

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Patrick Mahomes won’t be rusty. He will be brilliant. The Chiefs will gain a measure of revenge for the 31-24 loss to the Texans in the regular season. Look for Mahomes to pick apart Houston and find the end zone with a trio of touchdown passes.

One of the underdogs will advance

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Seattle seems like the most likely candidate to earn a spot in a championship game as an underdog. The Niners have precious little playoff experience, but Minnesota doesn’t boast a ton, either. In the AFC, it would be shocking if Tennessee moved on to the conference championship. And Houston needs a stellar effort from Deshaun Watson, playing half a game won’t work the way it did against Buffalo.

Brady’s name will be repeated over & over

 Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

Tom Brady heads into free agency. The quarterback says he wants to continue playing. That opens the route for anyone and everyone to speculate on TV about what the Patriots’ great will do, where he will play, what would be best for him … without having a clue as to what Brady is thinking.
