NFL playoffs: 7 bold predictions for the NFC Championship Game

The San Francisco 49ers play host to the Green Bay Packers Sunday at Levi’s Stadium with the NFC Super Bowl berth on the line. The game is a rematch of a regular-season rout that saw San Francisco roll to a 37-8 victory. Expect another lopisded contest or will Aaron Rodgers & Co. have more answers? Some bold predictions

Rodgers will throw for more than 104 yards

Ronald Martinez/Getty Images

Don’t expect the Niners to shut down Aaron Rodgers the way they did in the first meeting. The Packers were totally out of sorts and off their game for the entire contest. Rodgers won’t let that happen again.

Adams will have more than 104 yards

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The first matchup was out of hand so the numbers for Green Bay are all awful. Davante Adams had seven catches for 43 yards. He easily will match the number of catches Sunday and will more than double his receiving yardage. Also, expect him to find the end zone.

Jones won’t reach century mark

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

The other Aaron in the Packers’ backfield averaged less than three yards per carry in the first meeting. He did not have a catch. Don’t be stunned when the Niners keep him in check again and he doesn’t achieve 100 yards in total offense.

Niners will get less than 5 sacks

Lachlan Cunningham/Getty Images

The Niners’ defense feasted on Green Bay in November. Aaron Rodgers was sacked five times as Arik Armstead led the way with two. Don’t expect the same success this go-round. The Packers know they have to protect their all-world QB and will make sure he get some time to throw the ball.

Kittle won’t reach 129 yards

Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

George Kittle is one of the two best tight ends in football. He showed his talents to the Packers when he had six catches for 129 yards and a touchdown. Green Bay won’t shut Kittle down completely, but it will keep him below his yardage in the first meeting.

Game’s leading rusher will top 45 yards

 Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

In the first meeting, both teams had a leading rusher with 45 yards. Raheem Mostert got his on six carries while Jamaal Williams had his on 11. Expect someone to have more success rushing the ball in the rematch.

Kyle Shanahan will join his dad as SB head coach

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

This is a story line unto itself. Kyle Shanahan is looking to join his father Mike as a Super Bowl head coach. Mike Shanahan coached the Denver Broncos to back-to-back Super Bowl victories in XXXII and XXXIII. Kyle is looking to join his father on that elite level. The game will be closer than the first match and Kyle will join Mike as a Super Bowl head coach. There will be disappointment for those hoping to see the teams that played in the first Super Bowl meet: Green Bay and Kansas City.
