The AFC Championship Game will be played Sunday at Arrowhead in Kansas City. The high-flying Chiefs against the surprising Tennesee Titans. There are big names that rise up in big games and sometimes the least likely player becomes the hero.
Henry will break the century mark
Derrick Henry won’t be the reason Tennessee stumbles against Kansas City. In the AFC Championship Game, he will continue his run toward free agency with 20-plus carries and 125 yards. He will need to find the end zone a couple times for the Titans to have a prayer.
Tannehill won’t throw for 250 yards
Ryan Tannehill has turned into the Titans’ version of Nick Foles. He’s led quite the resurgence that has Tennessee on the verge of its first Super Bowl appearance since Jan. 30, 2000. Not quite as long as the 50 years KC is working on, but the Titans’ faithful has to be parched, too.
Mahomes will throw for 300 yards
Patrick Mahomes never panicked despite being down 24 against Houston. Expect the same calm and cool quarterback against Tennessee. However, he won’t have to push the gas pedal as hard. Mahomes will throw for more than 300 yards — two receivers over the 100-yard mark — and will be the star of the game.
Kelce will catch double-digit passes
The Super Bowl could set up as a showdown of great tight ends if San Francisco and Kansas City advance. Big personalities and massive talent are what make George Kittle and Travis Kelce wonderful to watch. The Titans won’t have any answers for the Chiefs’ great tight end, who will catch more than 10 passes and find the end zone.
Clark will have two sacks
Frank Clark came to Kansas City to help firm up a leaky defense. He’s done his part, as has DB Tyrann Mathieu. Look for Clark to harass Ryan Tannehill throughout the AFC Championship and take him down a couple times in the backfield.
Joseph will kick his first field goal
The Titans have had kicking woes. Greg Joseph has been with the team for a pair of regular season and playoff games, respectively. He has connected on all 15 extra points. However, he has yet to attempt a field goal. That will change Sunday at Arrowhead when Joseph makes his three-pointer. In case you were wondering, he was 17-of-20 for the Browns in 2018. Tennessee is a putrid 8-of-18 on the season for field goals. How ironic would it be if one put it into the Super Bowl?
Chiefs will make the Super Bowl
The Titans won’t come up a yard short … sorry. Kansas City ends the magical run for Mike Vrabel, Ryan Tannehill and Tennessee. Don’t think KC will fall behind by 24 as it did against the Texans and it won’t break 50. But it will book travel to Florida.
