NFL players hated this controversial targeting call on Wisconsin

Wisconsin blew out Michigan in the first half Saturday, but the Badgers’ defense will be short-handed next weekend after two safeties were ejected for targeting in a single drive.

Wisconsin’s Eric Burrell was thrown out of the game following a review and will be forced to sit out the first half against Northwestern, as the penalty occurred in the second half. Burrell made helmet-to-helmet contact with Wolverines QB Dylan McCaffrey, who slid awkwardly to the ground just before being hit by Burrell.

Many current and former NFL players who were watching the game thought the targeting penalty was completely unwarranted, and roasted the referees on Twitter.

Just a few plays later, Wisconsin’s Reggie Pearson was ejected for targeting for a clearly illegal hit on McCaffrey.
