NFL officially sets 2019 salary cap at $188.2 million

With free agency less than two weeks away and the franchise tag deadline coming up on Tuesday, the NFL made a significant announcement on Friday. The league officially set the 2019 salary cap at $188.2 million, up from $177.2 million last year.

This is the sixth straight year the salary cap has risen by at least $10 million.

Originally, the league projected that the cap would range between $187 million and $190 million, so it came in almost right in the middle of the two figures. As for the Rams – and every other team – this doesn’t change much.

According to OverTheCap.com, the Rams have $22,537,887 in cap space this year. That’s only down about $1.8 million from the original projection from Over The Cap.

Their $22.5 million in cap space puts the Rams 19th in the NFL. They can free up about $22 million by cutting Michael Brockers, Mark Barron and John Sullivan if they want, as well.
