The Tampa Bay Buccaneers spent much of their bye week self-scouting, hoping to clean up problem areas before heading into a critical four-game stretch to close the season.
But it was also an opportunity for some well-earned R&R, and even some bonding time between head coach and quarterback.
That’s why Tom Brady and Bruce Arians were planning to hit the links together, until the NFL stepped in.

Despite all the public discussion about their relationship, the wondering about whether or not they get along, how the quarterback handles being called out by the coach, Arians and Brady clearly like each other enough to anticipate two or three days of bonding over golf at Tampa’s Old Memorial Golf Club, one of the state’s best. That was the thought, with the two of them scheduling 36 or 54 holes.
The only problem was that the league stepped in and nixed the idea, a source said. Gathering outside the facility is not allowed in the COVID-19 protocols. And so, golf was out, but self-scout was in.
Well, so much for that.
Hopefully for Bucs fans, Brady and Arians were still able to get on the same page without playing a few holes, and they’ll be able to finish the season with a playoff berth. On Sunday, they beat the Minnesota Vikings 26-14 to improve to 7-5.
