NFL, NFLPA to investigate Trent Williams situation

The saga between the Washington Redskins and Trent Williams took another turn this week.

Williams returned to the team after he wasn’t dealt before the trade deadline. He then took a deep dive into the reasoning for his absence. Right after, the Redskins released a statement defending themselves.

In the process of releasing said statement, the Redskins asked for a joint investigation into claims made by Williams.

As NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport noted in the tweet above, the Redskins will have their wish granted on this front. It creates a sort of peer-review situation from the outside to get to the bottom of the claims.

In the meantime, the Redskins are working to find a custom helmet that doesn’t cause Williams any discomfort. But given the developments, even unearthing such a helmet doesn’t seem like it will be enough to actually get Williams on the field.
