NFL/NFLPA announce changes to gambling policies

Following an off-season where multiple players were suspended for various gambling violations, the NFL and NFL Player’s Association announced changes to their gambling policy.

The new changes include heightened punishments for various suspensions related to gambling, including gambling on the NFL.

If a player is caught gambling on the NFL, they will be suspended indefinitely for at least a year. If they’re found gambling on their team, the minimum is increased to two years.

However, the new policies reduced the punishments for gambling on other sports in the workplace.

Those punishments are the following:

  • First violation: two game suspension without pay.
  • Second violation: six game suspension without pay
  • Third violation: suspension without pay for at least a year

The changes in the violation also mean that the suspensions for Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams and Tennessee Titans offensive tackle Nick Petit-Frere will be reduced. Both were due to be suspended for six games but will be reinstated on Monday.
