NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks raves about Dolphins WR Preston Williams

The NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks offered grades for notable members of the 2019 NFL Draft class after their first performances with their new teams this past weekend. Good news, Dolphins fans — you’re not alone in your praise of former Colorado State wide receiver Preston Williams! Brooks offered glowing praise of Williams for his play on Thursday night against the Atlanta Falcons, scoring him as an “A” performer.

Here’s what Brooks had to say about Williams’ play:

“The Dolphins might’ve unearthed a hidden gem when they signed Williams. The 6-4, 211-pound pass-catcher has all of the tools to be a No. 1 receiver…Williams finished the night with four receptions for 97 yards, logging a few jaw-dropping catches that showcased his exceptional hands and nimble footwork. No. 82’s impressive “toe drag swag” on an 18-yard sideline reception was a thing of beauty and it highlighted the hand-eye coordination and dexterity that could make him a Michael Thomas-like playmaker for the Dolphins on the perimeter.” – Bucky Brooks, NFL.com

“Michael Thomas-like playmaker” is high praise from a former NFL player in Brooks. Should Williams’ play in 2019 and beyond resemble anything close to what the Saints have seen from Michael Thomas, Williams will undoubtedly go down as one of the all-time great draft steals.

But that is a lot of projection, a lot of wishful thinking and a far way down the road. In the meantime, Williams would do well to continue beating up cornerbacks in Tampa this week. The Dolphins hold joint practices with the Buccaneers today and tomorrow ahead of their Week 2 preseason match-up.
