NFL Network gives Ben Roethlisberger no shot at Super Bowl titles

Winning a Super Bowl is really hard. Winning multiple Super Bowls is nearly impossible. Winning multiple Super Bowls late in a quarterback’s career is practically unheard of. The analysts at NFL Network debated the topic of which quarterback over 35 in the league now has the best shot at winning multiple Super Bowls going forward.

The top candidates discussed were Pittsburgh Steelers Ben Roethlisberger, Green Bay Packers Aaron Rodgers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tom Brady, New Orleans Saints Drew Brees and Atlanta Falcons Matt Ryan.

Not a single expert gave Roethlisberger any shot of winning multiple Super Bowls. The most popular choices among the list were Brees and Rodgers.

The question itself is severely flawed as pointed out by one of their analysts. Brian Baldinger noted that multiple guys on the list could win one more Lombardi but the notion of winning multiple this late in their careers really makes the entire debate meaningless.

The obvious answer here is no one. So that’s what I’m going to go with. Tom Brady has won three of the last six Super Bowls — and six total — but he did all that as part of a dynasty that we will likely never see again. He’s now in Tampa Bay playing in one of the toughest divisions in football, where he’ll meet two other guys on this list twice a year. Not to mention, he’s 43! There’s a chance a number of these seven quarterbacks could win one title before hanging up the cleats, but I don’t see any of them winning multiple.

For any quarterback over 35, they are staring down some of the most talented young quarterbacks in the league we’ve seen in a long time right now. For Roethlisberger, he has to contend with guys like Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson and Deshaun Watson just to name three in his way.
