NFL, NCAA issue joint statement after football safety meeting

The NFL and NCAA partnered to host a joint meeting this week, inviting medical staff representatives from the SEC, ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12, the NCAA Sport Science Institute, and NFL Player Health & Safety.

“We are proud to meet with the NCAA as we both work to progress the health and well-being of players and student-athletes,” Dr. Allen Sills, NFL Chief Medical Officer, said via the press release. “Through sharing the changes we’ve made on and off the field to enhance player safety, we find continued opportunity to advance health and safety at all levels of the game.”

The purpose of the gathering was to share information and best practices relating to the safety of players and student-athletes.

“It is important to share best practices, research and innovative strategies that address the safety of our football athletes,” said Brian Hainline, MD and NCAA Chief Medical Officer. “This collaborative meeting with the NFL is an important step forward for all football stakeholders.”
