NFL mock draft: Colts projected WR Kelvin Harmon by USA TODAY

The Indianapolis Colts will have several avenues to explore when they are officially on the clock during the 2019 NFL Draft at the end of April. While it shouldn’t be expected, the wide receiver position is on the table as a potential pick in the first round.

Most of the media is split on which prospects the Colts will go after with the No. 26 overall pick in the draft, but Mike Middlehurst-Schwartz of USA TODAY has Indy taking the most well-rounded receiver in the class.

26. Colts – Kelvin Harmon, WR, North Carolina State: A lackluster free agency class of receivers could further push to general manager Chris Ballard to the draft in the team’s search for a complement to T.Y. Hilton, whose skill set Harmon would contrast well.

Harmon would be an intriguing talent to put alongside Hilton on the outside. He has the size and strength to be a prototypical WR1 in the NFL, and his ability to beat press coverage will allow him to make an impact in the league quickly.

However, it is highly unlikely the Colts take a wide receiver in the first round. That really hasn’t been Chris Ballard’s MO during his year’s in the league. With his preference to continue building through the trenches, an impactful defensive lineman is likely the pick.

Much of this could change on a dime given that free agency has yet to take place, which really helps shape the direction a team might go in during the early rounds of the draft.

Should they decide to go with Harmon, they would be getting a potential WR1 alongside Hilton on the outside.
