NFL Mock Draft: Bears grab Buckeye WR in 3rd round

After making a massive investment at wide receiver last offseason, the Chicago Bears seem more likely to focus on other positions in free agency and the NFL Draft this year.

Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel, Anthony Miller and Javon Wims were added in last year’s spending spree and selection weekend and they’re expected to be the top four pass-catchers on the depth chart in 2019. Josh Bellamy is a candidate to return on a team-friendly deal and with teams usually carrying five or six active receivers on gameday, an early-round investment on a wide receiver would seem somewhat wasteful.

That’s not the case in NFL.com’s three-round mock draft, however. In this recent mock, the Bears grab one of Ohio State’s primary pass-catchers.

Pick. 87: Terry McLaurin, WR, Ohio State

McLaurin’s always had speed, but a big Senior Bowl week showed that he might now be a reliable enough receiver to go in the top 100.

McLaurin (6-1, 205) finished last season with 35 catches for 701 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was one of several weapons used by QB Dwayne Haskins, who’s expected to be a top-10 quarterback and potentially the first quarterback off the board.

The Bears won’t shy away from adding more weapons for Mitchell Trubisky, but it’s more likely they’ll give him another option to target out of the backfield instead of at wideout.
