NFL mock draft 2020: Bears target tight ends in post-Super Bowl projections

While the Bears don’t have a first-round pick for the second straight year due to the Khalil Mack trade, they’re picking twice in the top 50 in April. One of those picks seems almost certain to be a tight end, at least going off a series of mock drafts published following the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIV win.

Among five different multi-round mock drafts published Tuesday, all but one of them sees the Bears using a second-rounder on a tight end. It’s the prime area of agreement between the experts, which shouldn’t come as a surprise given how poorly the Bears’ tight ends performed in 2019.

Bleacher Report and the San Diego Union-Tribune each project the Bears to use the 43rd overall pick on Purdue tight end Brycen Hopkins, who caught 61 passes for 830 yards and seven touchdowns as a senior. Notre Dame’s Cole Kmet and Washington’s Hunter Bryant are also on the board at that position.

SB Nation, which projected Kmet to the Bears with the 43rd pick, adds an interesting wrinkle: Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm with the 50th pick. That’d give the Bears a young passer to compete with Mitch Trubisky in training camp in the fall, although other early mock drafts see offensive line as a more likely position to target.

Here’s a rundown of how the Bears use their second-round picks in the latest multi-round mock drafts.
