NFL Minute: Seahawks made right decision with Russell Wilson extension

Some people – especially Seattle Seahawks’ fans – are worried that the team overpaid for quarterback Russell Wilson’s new $140 million contract.

Well, of course, they did! However, that is the price of keeping a Super Bowl-winning signal-caller on your roster. It just happens to be the price of doing business.

As a result, fans are worried that the new deal will impact the Seahawks’ ability to strike long-term extensions with the likes of defensive stars Frank Clark, Bobby Wagner, and Jarran Reed. All three are under control through the 2019 campaign.

As good as that trio is, Tim Benz believes the positions they play make them replaceable. A team’s quarterback? Not as much.

Benz says Seattle was tasked with either extending the face of the franchise or set up the most massive question in football. In the end, he believes the ‘Hawks made the right choice.
