Panthers safety Eric Reid is still campaigning for his former San Francisco 49ers teammate – quarterback Colin Kaepernick – to find work in the National Football League.
It’s understandable. Reid and Kaepernick are very close and – of course – the latter’s departure from the NFL was rather abrupt and unceremonious.
However, Tim Benz points out that the details on how Kaepernick ended up at this point contractually have widely been forgotten.
The former University of Nevada standout opted out of his contract with San Francisco in 2017, setting up his standing in free agency.
Benz adds that – while Kaepernick certainly has more than enough talent and accolades to be at worst a backup quarterback in the league – most teams look for their QB2 to be far from a distraction and, more or less, a non-story.
Tim notes that Kaepernick has stated that is the opposite of his goal and believes that he is even less fit to be backup in 2019 than he was three years ago.
