NFL Minute: Chiefs clear winner of last offseason’s QB carousel

Things are looking pretty solid for the Kansas City Chiefs at the moment as a result of last season’s crazy offseason quarterback carousel.

Andy Reid and company decided to hands the reigns of their squad to second-year quarterback Patrick Mahomes, jettisoning veteran Alex Smith to Washington.

While Smith destroyed his leg in D.C., their former field general took the money and split to join the Minnesota Vikings. Although Kirk Cousins set career-highs in touchdowns (30) and a career-low in interceptions (10), the Vikes dropped from NFC Championship Game participants to missing the playoffs altogether.

Case Keenum then departed Minneapolis in favor of a starting role with the Denver Broncos. After being intercepted and sacked a combined 49 times in 2018, the team made a trade to acquire Joe Flacco from the Baltimore Ravens.

Despite the fact that the Chiefs didn’t advance out of the NFL’s final four this year, Tim Benz states looking back there is no doubt that Kansas City is the clear-cut winner of last winter’s quarterback shuffle.
