NFL insider: ‘It will be’ Bryce Young for Panthers at No. 1

Another NFL insider thinks the tide of the 2023 NFL draft may be turning towards Bryce Young.

Jordan Schultz of theScore spoke about the Carolina Panthers and this year’s No. 1 overall pick with VSiN on Friday. He, like ESPN’s Chris Mortensen before him, seemed pretty confident that the selection will be used on the University of Alabama star quarterback.

“I think it’s gonna be Bryce Young,” Schultz said. “Now, that doesn’t mean that Carolina doesn’t like C.J. Stroud. Obviously, there was a lot to like about his workout, and I think all these guys have helped themselves in their pro days. When it comes to Young though, there’s a Steph Curry-like 2.0 feel to him that a couple teams have told me about him.

“And what that means is—the way he can throw the football is so otherworldly and so smooth and so talented, that I think it’s really hard to pass him up at 1.”

Even in the face of size concerns, the 5-foot-10, 204-pound Young is the most natural distributor of the class. His combination of poise, touch and improvisational skills gives off those point guard vibes Schultz makes note of, and is something new Panthers offensive coordinator Thomas Brown has even specifically mentioned.

Schultz went on, comparing Stroud’s playmaking ability to Young’s.

“Stroud you can say, ‘Well, he did a lot of the same things against Georgia in the national semifinal game when he was tremendous—and I think he answered a lot of the questions. Could he move around the pocket? Could he create those wizardry type of plays. And I think both of them have it. But I think when it comes to Carolina at 1, it will be Bryce Young.”

Oh, and in case you’re not buying the “Bryce Young playing point guard” stuff, then here’s Bryce Young literally playing point guard . . .
