In the NFL, some players’ jobs aren’t safe for long. After all, NFL does stand for “Not For Long.”
The same applies for head coaches.
Dan Hanzus ranked the job security of every NFL head coach, from those and believes are riding the hot seat to those he believes are virtually untouchable.
Where does Bears coach Matt Nagy fall? Nagy is “safer than a union dock worker with connections.”
Translation? He’s not going anywhere.
Nagy was a big hit in his first season in Chicago, breathing much-needed life into a previously listless Bears offense. Nagy faces more pressure after last year’s 12-4 breakout campaign, but he is very much part of the Bears’ present and future. If Mitch Trubisky takes the next step as a quarterback in 2019, Nagy might find himself even higher on this list in 2020.
The reigning Coach of the Year faces his toughest task to date: Maintaining the success established in 2018. With the Bears returning all but two starters, there’s no excuse as to why the Bears shouldn’t be Super Bowl contenders. Especially with superstars like Khalil Mack and Roquan Smith with a training camp under their belt.
For Nagy, this season is about “chasing great” as the Bears celebrate their centennial season.
But it’s more than that. This is the best team the Bears have had in a long time. A team with the talent to win a championship. And it’s up to the head coach whose job is safer than safe to lead them there.
