NFL free agency: Former Chiefs DL Allen Bailey visiting Panthers today

According to a report by Adam Schefter at ESPN, free agent defensive lineman Allen Bailey is visiting the Panthers today.

Bailey was a third-round pick by the Chiefs in 2011 and has spent his entire career in Kansas City up until now. In 102 career games, he’s totaled 19.5 sacks, 33 QB hits and 34 tackles for a loss. He became a free agent last month after having a his best season in the NFL yet in 2018 (six sacks, 10 QB hits).

This isn’t coming out of left field. Carolina was reported to be in the mix for signing Bailey a couple of weeks ago. The Panthers have competition, though. The Patriots and Chiefs have also been in talks with Bailey.

If he signs, Bailey would likely be the replacement for veteran defensive tackle Kyle Love, who is currently trying his own luck on the open market. He’d project at defensive end in Carolina’s incoming 3-4 sets.
