NFL free agency: Falcons release 1 lineman, sign 2 more

The tinkering in the trenches continues for the Falcons. The team just announced three moves on its official website.

First, Atlanta released undrafted free agent offensive tackle Devon Johnson (6-foot-7, 315 pounds). To replace him, the team has signed former Florida International University offensive tackle Dieugot Joseph (6-foot-6, 300 pounds). He has mostly been a practice squad player since he went undrafted.

The Falcons also signed defensive end Austin Larkin (6-foot-3, 265 pounds), who played his college ball at Purdue. Larkin played with the Cowboys briefly last year but did not make the roster and later moved on to the now defunct AAF.

Larkin and Joseph will both be competing for one of the final spots on Atlanta’s roster this year. Their chances aren’t great and they may require a few injuries to players higher up on the depth chart to have a real chance.

If they’re still around in August, the Hall of Fame game against the Broncos may be their best shot to make an impression.
