NFL free agency: Another former Falcons offensive player signing with 49ers

Kyle Shanahan is getting the band back together. The former Falcons offensive coordinator and current 49ers head coach has been snapping up former Atlanta offensive players left and right this offseason. So far, he’s signed guard Ben Garland and running back Tevin Coleman. Today, he added another name that will be familiar to Falcons fans.

According to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, San Francisco is expected to sign former Atlanta and Detroit tight end Levine Toilolo.

Toilolo played for the Falcons from 2013-2017, including two years while Shanahan was calling plays. In 79 games, he posted 74 catches, 723 yards and seven touchdowns. Last season, Toilolo left and signed with the Lions in free agency. He had 21 catches on 24 targets from Matt Stafford, totaling 263 yards and a touchdown.

At 6-foot-8 and 268 pounds, Toilolo is primarily a blocking tight end. His primary job will be helping Coleman and the other running backs break loose.

Last year, the Niners ranked just No. 21 in the league in scoring. They should move up the ladder in 2019 though, assuming they get a full healthy season from starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
