NFL fans rejoice over Jason Witten’s exit from the ‘Monday Night Football’ booth

Jason Witten spent one season in the Monday Night Football booth with ESPN — an experiment that was almost universally hated by football fans.

Well, it’s one-and-done for Witten.

The Dallas Cowboys announced on Thursday that the longtime tight end was ending his retirement to rejoin the Cowboys. In the team’s statement, Witten made a point to say that the Monday Night Football exit was completely his decision.

He said:

“The fire inside of me to compete and play this game is just burning too strong,” Witten said in a statement. “This team has a great group of rising young stars, and I want to help them make a run at a championship. This was completely my decision, and I am very comfortable with it. I’m looking forward to getting back in the dirt.”

Witten played with the Cowboys for 15 years, and this return to Dallas had football fans ecstatic over the instant improvement to the Monday Night Football broadcast.
