NFL execs offer some praise for Hockenson, Tavai picks by the Lions

What did some executives from around the NFL think of the Detroit Lions draft class of 2019? A recent piece from Mike Sando at ESPN highlights some praise for T.J. Hockenson, Tahlani Tavai and the rest of Bob Quinn’s selections.

The positional and team need fit really impressed one anonymous exec,

“Hockenson was my favorite guy and then they got Tavai, who is perfect for them and someone we thought New England would take,” an evaluator said. “Tavai is a big, strong, tough linebacker who can play special teams. It makes sense he would end up there.”

The overall feelings on Hockenson were mixed between wild enthusiasm and the thought he came off the board too early at No. 8 overall.

“If you think Hockenson is Rob Gronkowski, great, but he is not that,” one said. Another countered,

“It wasn’t even close for me personally between Hockenson and Fant. I thought Hockenson was awesome. If we had been in position to trade up for him, I would have done it in a heartbeat and would not have blinked.”
