NFL Draft: Will Felton Davis III go undrafted?

Man, when Felton Davis III tore his achilles during Michigan State’s loss to Michigan last season, it not only derailed the Spartans’ season, it potentially derailed his NFL career.

A torn achilles is one of the worst injuries you can have in sports. It can fundamentally change how you perform athletically, and no one really knows what a guy will look like until after it’s healed.

Here is what I said just moments after the injury:

Felton Davis III was Michigan State’s leader through the season, and one of the best receivers they’ve produced. I will never forget him absolutely taking over the Penn State game and leading them to a victory in the final moments of the game. However, due to his injury, he will likely be a late-round pick, if even. It’s possible he might have to sign to a team undrafted and work his way back into form.

Here is what NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah had to say about Davis:

“Felton Davis, I have him as a late-round guy. I have him in the seventh round. Big frame, I thought he struggled against press, and obviously you’ve got the Achilles. So coming off of that, I had him as probably a seventh-round or a priority free agent.”
