NFL Draft: Rain and lightning could make the first round a total mess

The first round of the 2019 NFL Draft will take place tonight in downtown Nashville.

Finally.

But it could be a total mess because it’s scheduled to be held outdoors and and rains, along with thunder and lightning, is expected to hit right smack dab in the middle of the draft.

It could even force the NFL to move the draft inside.

The Tennessean has details:

“This is the NFL. We play in all weather, rain or shine, but if it’s a safety concern, we have a plan,” said Eric Finkelstein, senior director for event operations at the NFL. “We’ve worked in similar venues before, and we have contingency plans for our contingency plans.”

The NFL will be able to use the screens and sound system set up for broadcasting the event to share emergency plan details and important information with the crowd as needed.

If the outdoor stage becomes dangerous due to weather, it is likely that the operations of the draft itself will move into the Schermerhorn Symphony Center just blocks away. It’s there that Selection Square is housed, and the real business end of the draft occurs. announcements could be made from a protected stage inside.

That doesn’t sound great for all the fans that are planning on attending the event.

And it looks like it’s already a little nasty out:

So yeah, this first round could be a lot more interesting tonight.
