NFL Draft: Of the 12 QBs chosen in 2011, one remains with the team that selected him

A dozen quarterbacks were taken in the 2011 NFL Draft. Cam Newton was the first, going No. 1 overall. With the exit from Carolina of Newton, Andy Dalton of the Cincinnati Bengals, for now, remains the last quarterback to be with the team that drafted him in 2011.

New York Jets: Greg McElroy (Round 7)

Greg McElroy still has a home in football, in the broadcast booth. His NFL career consisted of one start, a loss, for the Jets who took him 208th overall. McElroy threw for 214 yards with a TD and a pick in his career.

Baltimore Ravens: Tyrod Taylor (6)

Tyrod Taylor went 180th overall to the Baltimore Ravens out of Virginia Tech. He has a chance to start in 2020 for the Los Angeles Chargers, depending on what they do in the NFL Draft. Taylor spent four years as a Raven but did not start a game. He went 22-20 as a starter in Buffalo. Taylor also spent time with the Cleveland Browns, getting bumped by Baker Mayfield.

Chicago Bears: Nathan Enderle (5)

Nathan Enderle was selected by the Chicago Bears 160th out of Idaho. The Vandal did not accumulate any NFL stats or playing time.

Houston Texans: T.J. Yates (5)

T.J. Yates played college ball at North Carolina and went 152nd overall to the Houston Texans. He had two runs with Houston, making a total of 10 starts and winning four.

Kansas City Chiefs: Ricky Stanzi (5)

Ricky Stanzi played college ball at Iowa and was chosen by the Chiefs 135th overall. Stanzi has zero NFL stats.

New England Patriots: Ryan Mallett (3)

Ryan Mallett started his college career at Michigan and transferred to Arkansas. The Patriots chose him 74th overall. He wasn’t about to start ahead of Tom Brady, so he was traded to Houston near the end of training camp in 2014. He wound up making eight starts, losing five.

San Francisco 49ers: Colin Kaepernick (2)

Colin Kaepernick was one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the league. He guided the 49ers to a Super Bowl. Kaepernick played college ball at Nevada and was the 36th overall selection. His career came to an abrupt halt when he opted out of his contract after being told SF was going to release him in the 2017 offseason. Kaepernick’s activism has been a source of controversy and he has not been signed by another team.

Cincinnati Bengals: Andy Dalton (2)

The lone quarterback left with the team that drafted him in 2011. The Bengals plucked Andy Dalton from TCU with the 35th overall pick. He has been the starter in Cincinnati since arriving from the Horned Frogs, with an overall mark of 70-61-2. No one would be surprised if the veteran turns up on another roster in the near future.

Minnesota Vikings: Christian Ponder (1)

Christian Ponder was drafted by Minnesota, 12th overall, from Florida State. He had won good year, his second season when he won 10 games. Otherwise it was down, down, downfall.

Jacksonville Jaguars: Blaine Gabbert (1)

Blaine Gabbert was taken 10th overall out of Missouri as the Jaguars sought a franchise quarterback. It wasn’t Gabbert. He became a journeyman, bouncing from team to team for many years.

Tennessee Titans: Jake Locker (1)

Jake Locker got it together in the NFL after being drafted from Washington, No. 8 overall. The quarterback, who also could have played Major League Baseball, was 9-14 as a starter and out of football following the 2014 season.

Carolina Panthers: Cam Newton (1)

The first overall pick out of Auburn, Cam Newton was cut by the Carolina Panthers on March 24. The Heisman winner delivered some stunning performances in his first seven seasons but was derailed by injuries in the last two years.
