NFL competition committee says Rams should have gotten key call near end of Super Bowl

The NFL Annual Meeting is currently going on in Arizona and we have some big rule changes going on.

But we also have a strange admission from the NFL Competition Committee over a key play late in the New England Patriots victory over the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl 53.

First the changes: Both offensive and defensive pass interference calls and non-calls will be able to be challenged in the final two minutes of a game, which Saints fans probably wish was allowed a few months ago.

But here’s the strange admission: The committee says this drop by Brandin Cooks in a 10-3 game with just over four minutes left should have been ruled pass interference and the Rams should have gotten the ball at the 1-yard line:

Stephon Gilmore did have his hand in there on Cooks but I don’t really remember anyone making a stink about it during or after the game.

The Rams would have had a chance to tie the game up if that call had been made.

Instead, they lost 13-3.
