NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein names Raiders SS Johnathan Abram as favorite pick of 2019 draft

After every draft, there are always a few picks that stand out among the rest. Sometimes, it’s just the case of the right team selecting the right player for their scheme.

For Oakland, they made quite a few selections that made a lot of sense. One of which was Mississippi State’s, Johnathan Abram. At pick No. 27, he should be a plug-and-play starter who can be a leader on defense.

In a recent article on NFL.com, Lance Zierlein picked a handful of his favorite selections from each round. Abram just so happened to be one of his top picks. Take a look at Zierlein’s reasoning behind loving the Abram pick:

I can’t stress this enough — Abram might have the most pro-ready mindset and game of any of the draft’s first-rounders. He’s a clear-cut alpha dog on the field with an unyielding desire to run, hit and impose his will. He can be a little limited in coverage, but general manager Mike Mayock added a guy with a chance to be a Day 1 starter and instant tone-setter as he remakes the football character of his team.

One thing is for sure, and that is Abram’s intensity. He is going to be a force on defense one way or another, and his energy alone should transfer to the entire team. Look for him to start in Week 1 and to instantly become a fan favorite on defense.
