NFL cancels private workouts for 2020 NFL Draft prospects

In the growing reaction to the coronavirus pandemic, the NFL has decided to cancel all pre-draft visits for prospects to team facilities. It’s among the steps being taken by the NFL and its 32 member clubs to try and stop the spread of the coronavirus.

On Friday afternoon, the NFL Management Council sent a memo informing all 32 teams that no pre-draft visits or travel to meet draft prospects is allowed.

Teams use the draft visits to get more deeply acquainted with potential draftees. Most last several hours and include meetings for the player with coaches, management and a tour of the facilities.

For a team like the Browns, which has a new coaching staff and front office in place since the college season ended, it presents a special challenge in the draft evaluation process. New GM Andrew Berry does have a familiarity with some of the holdover scouting staff from his prior tenure with the team, but the coaching staff and scouting staff have no experience working together to identify desired traits and talent identification.
