Even during a worldwide pandemic, the NFL conducted free agency and held its annual player draft without little disruption. That is no longer the case.
The NFL is canceling this year’s Pro Football Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to an NFL official with direct knowledge of the situation.
The official spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because it has not been announced.
The preseason opener between the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers was originally set for Aug. 6. In addition, the enshrinement ceremonies scheduled on Aug. 8 will be postponed.
ESPN first reported the postponement.
The Cowboys and Steelers are expected to remain on the schedule for the 2021 Hall of Fame Game, which is likely when this year’s class will be honored, according to ESPN.
Both Pittsburgh and Dallas were scheduled to open their respective training camps earlier than most teams (July 22). Twenty-eight teams are scheduled to report on July 28.
