NFL at Tottenham: Royal Mint unveil special coin to mark inaugural NFL game at new stadium

The NFL will unveil a limited-edition medallion to mark the first-ever NFL game to be played at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend.

Chicago Bears take on Oakland Raiders on Sunday in the first instalment of the four-game NFL London Series, followed by the clash between Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers on October 13.

It's the first American Football game to be played at the 62,214-seat stadium as part of the 10-year agreement between Tottenham and the NFL.

To mark the occasion, the NFL have designed a special coin in partnership with the Royal Mint to be used for the coin-toss.

The coin is one of a limited number made at The Royal Mint’s Headquarters in Llantrisant, Wales and will be given to every single player, coach and gameday officiating crew on what will be a landmark sporting occasion at Tottenham's new arena.

The design includes the two helmets of the competing sides, the 2019 London Games logo and includes references to the 100th NFL season and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Alistair Kirkwood, managing director for NFL UK, said: “Our collaboration with The Royal Mint is a fitting tribute for the NFL’s 100th season, and the first ever fixture at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

"It is a truly memorable way to kick-off this year’s London Games and is an honour to be recognised in this manner by one of the UK’s most historic institutions.”
