NFL announces offseason schedule for Saints

The New Orleans Saints and every other NFL team learned more about their offseason schedule, as the league announced first days, workouts, and minicamp dates for each team. The Saints will report for their first day of work on April 22, the Monday before the 2019 NFL Draft.

After that, the Saints will hold organized team activities (OTA’s) during three-day periods over as many weeks:

  • May 21-23
  • May 28-30
  • June 3-6

These are usually lowkey affairs, with teams running practices in shells to acclimate rookies and free agent acquisitions — the point is to help everyone get on the same page and familiarize with new teammates. They’re also voluntary workouts, though the Saints usually have full participation. We can expect some media availability here from coaches and key players like Drew Brees and Demario Davis, who spoke last year.

Following those offseason activities, the team will meet again from June 11-13 for mandatory minicamp. This is typically the first event of the year open to fans, giving them an opportunity to see the black and gold in action. But the Saints usually wait until late in May to announce whether or not they’ll make it open to the public, so don’t make plans just yet.

It’s going to be a fun offseason. It’s almost time to start thinking of real football activities being weeks away, rather than months. Get excited.
