NFC West standings: 49ers remain unbeaten, Seahawks keep pace

The NFC West has wrapped up its Week 9 games. The Los Angeles Rams had their bye week. They fell a little further behind in the division race because both teams ahead of them won.

The San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks both won and the Arizona Cardinals lost, as they played the Niners.

Here are the latest standings in the division:

  1. San Francisco 49ers, 8-0
  2. Seattle Seahawks, 7-2
  3. Los Angeles Rams, 5-3
  4. Arizona Cardinals, 3-5-1

San Francisco and Arizona kicked off Week 9 with a Halloween game in Arizona on Thursday night. 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo threw four touchdown passes and shredded the Cardinals defense for over 300 passing yards, but Kyler Murray threw two touchdown passes and Kenyan Drake had 162 yards from scrimmage to give the 49ers perhaps their biggest test of the season. The Niners won 28-25.

The Seahawks struggled defensively against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and fell behind 21-7 in the first half. Jameis Winston threw for 335 passing yards and receiver Mike Evans put up monster numbers, catching 12 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown. However, Tampa’s defense was as it has been all season — bad. Seattle QB Russell Wilson threw five touchdown passes and 378 yards. Chris Carson rushed for 105 yards. Tyler Lockett had 13 catches for 152 yards and two scores, while rookie receiver DK Metcalf had six receptions for 123 yards and a score. Seattle rallied to tie and had a chance to win the game in regulation but kicker Jason Myers missed the potential game-winning field goal.

However, Seattle won the overtime coin toss, marched down the field and scored the game-ending touchdown to win 40-34.

What’s next for the division in Week 10?

The Cardinals get to play the same Buccaneers on the road, facing Bruce Arians, who retired from coaching after five years with the Cardinals and becoming the winningest coach in team history.

The Rams come off their bye to take on the resurgent Pittsburgh Steelers on the road. Pittsburgh, who looked hopeless after losing QB Ben Roethlisberger for the season, have improved to 4-4.

The Seahawks and 49ers face off in San Francisco to end the week on Monday night. It should be the matchup of the week.
