NFC West roundup: Where the teams stand heading into Week 7

Week 6 of the NFL regular season is in the books and one of the league’s most competitive divisions this season had quite the week.

In addition to the Seahawks emerging victorious against the Browns on the road, the 49ers added to their win total against the Rams, who suffered their third consecutive loss, a brutal home defeat that saw them outmatched in every aspect of play.

The Cardinals, on the other hand, obtained a thrilling victory over the Falcons that featured an abundance of offense and a little bit of luck at the end.

Here is a summary of how the Seahawks’ division rivals performed in Week 6.

San Francisco 49ers 20 – Los Angeles Rams 7

The 49ers came into Los Angeles riding high with four straight wins to start their season and added a fifth against their division rival to move to 5-0. This victory also moved them to No. 2 in the NFL’s power rankings.

San Francisco was greeted with mostly 49ers fans at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, which essentially gave the team another home game. San Francisco’s strong defensive run continued and limited Sean McVay’s high-flying offense to only one touchdown. Robert Saleh’s unit has looked elite all season and continues to stifle opposing offenses.

The 49ers offense put up 331 total yards en route to victory, although quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo threw his fifth interception of the season. The sixth-year QB also completed 24 of 33 passes for 243 yards. Tight end George Kittle had his best game of the season with 8 catches for 103 yards, while Dante Pettis led all San Francisco wide receivers with three receptions for 45 yards.

The Rams now have three consecutive losses and quarterback Jared Goff has not looked particularly inspiring, especially in this game. He totaled a measly 78 passing yards on the day with no touchdowns or interceptions. Limited running back Todd Gurley did not play, leaving Malcolm Brown to pick up 40 rushing yards on 11 carries.

These losses for the Rams could have a significant impact later in the season if the team does not rebound quickly. Acquiring Jalen Ramsey could help with that significantly.

Arizona Cardinals 34 – Atlanta Falcons 33

The Cardinals barely escaped an offensive shootout at home with an outstanding performance from QB Kyler Murray, a missed extra point from Falcons kicker Matt Bryant and a questionable ruling that Murray crossed the first-down marker on a third and 5 run.

Murray threw three touchdowns and no interceptions while completing 73% of his passes for a 128.2 passer rating. He also tacked on 32 rushing yards.

On the flip side, Arizona’s defense is ranked No. 30 in the league under Vance Joseph and gave up over 100 receiving yards to both Julio Jones and Austin Hooper. The Cardinals also nearly squandered a 17-point lead and the game could have been sent to overtime if Bryant had made the extra point following Atlanta’s final touchdown.

However, it looks like Murray and coach Kliff Kingsbury are now clicking and firing on all cylinders. They have a lot of ground to make up in the NFC West but are only six games into the season.
