Week 4 of the 2019 season is officially in the books and it was a good one for the Seattle Seahawks. Not only did the Seahawks bounce back after an upset loss with a dominating win to improve to 3-1, but it was also against a division rival.
The Seahawks took care of Arizona handily, which has been a shakeup from recent years, as the Cardinals have typically made their annual games with Seattle far more competitive than expected. Meanwhile, the Seahawks got a bit of a boost as the Rams suffered an upset of their own by losing to the Buccaneers at home.
Seattle was the only NFC West team to log a win this weekend, as the 49ers were on their bye. With this in mind, here’s a closer look at how Week 4 broke down for the division.
Los Angeles Rams 40, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 55
Easily the biggest shock of Week 4 was Tampa’s dominating upset over the Rams. The Bucs came out of the gates as hot as they’ve ever been and built an early 21-0 lead. The Rams fought back but were unable to ever take a lead of their own.
Quarterback Jared Goff struggled despite completing 45 of 68 passes for 517 yards. Goff may have had two touchdowns, but he also threw for three interceptions.
The closest Los Angeles got was cutting the lead to only five points after the Rams defense intercepted an errant Jameis Winston pass for a touchdown, making the score 45-40. However on the next drive following a Tampa field goal, Goff fumbled the ball and former Rams defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh returned it for the game-sealing touchdown.
The Rams will now take on the Seahawks on Thursday night. The winner takes first place in the division and the loser will fall to third.
San Francisco 49ers – BYE WEEK
As previously stated, the 49ers spent Week 4 at home as they enjoyed an early bye week. San Francisco is currently the only undefeated team in the division, and despite playing in one less game than the rest of the West, the 49ers 3-0 record has them atop the standings.
While San Francisco should feel good about the team’s first 3-0 start since 1998, those three wins came against Cincinnati, Tampa Bay, and the Ben Roethlisberger-less Steelers. The 49ers will be back in action for Monday Night Football in Week 5 against the incredibly hot and cold Cleveland team.
Arizona Cardinals 10, Seattle Seahawks 27
This one might as well go without saying for Seahawks fans. Long story short, the Cardinals have been surprisingly competitive despite their winless record but were anything but on Sunday.
Seattle took charge early and it never felt close after that. The 10 points Arizona scored was the Cardinals’ lowest point total of the season as Kingsbury’s air raid offense was grounded by the Seahawks defense.
However, the Cardinals get a bit of a break and a real chance to log their first victory as they take on the similarly winless Bengals in Cincinnati in Week 5.
