NFC North watch: Vikings trade for Jaguars EDGE Yannick Ngakoue

Many Lions fans have coveted Jacksonville Jaguars EDGE Yannick Ngakoue all offseason. Ngakoue made it known he wanted out of Jacksonville and the Lions carried a crying need for pass-rush speed.

Ngakoue is indeed coming to the NFC North, but it’s not Detroit pulling the trigger on acquiring Ngakoue and his massive contract demands. On Sunday morning, the Minnesota Vikings traded two draft picks to the Jaguars to acquire Ngakoue.

The deal is contingent on Ngakoue signing his franchise tag tender offer, worth $17.88 million, and for the Vikings to figure out how to fit that into their salary cap. Currently the Vikings do not have the cap room to fit Ngakoue into the roster, though there are ways to move money and/or players around to make it happen.

Adam Schefter of ESPN brings the details, which have some contingencies to them:

Ngakoue has 37.5 sacks in four seasons, including eight in 2019. He made the Pro Bowl in 2017 with 12.5 sacks and six forced fumbles.
