NFC North watch: Packers get injury scares in preseason disaster in Canada

If you’re someone who thinks it’s time for radical change to the NFL’s preseason, Thursday night’s debacle between the Green Bay Packers and Oakland Raiders is a big feather in your cap.

Playing in Winnipeg, the Raiders beat the Packers, 22-21. It was a disaster from the get-go. Issues with the CFL goal posts and removing them ruined the field, so the teams played on just 80 yards. To quote brother site Packers Wire,

The CFL plays with goalposts in the end zone. The NFL does not. How does this issue pop up two hours before game time? This event has been planned for months. Clown show.

The Packers suffered some injury scares in the game, too. First-round pick Rashan Gary left the field twice, the second time on a cart. The EDGE from Michigan had his representation quickly tweet out that he’s fine, but any time a first-round pick goes down twice and needs a cart, it certainly raises the pulse.

The situation with WR Equanimeous St. Brown looks worse for Green Bay. He suffered what looked like an eerily similar injury to the one which ruined Jermaine Kearse’s season in the Lions preseason opener. Like Kearse, St. Brown was nearly uncontested as the team’s No. 4 WR and they have serious depth issues at the position.
