NFC East News: Cowboys QB Dak Prescott seeking new deal worth $40M per year

The Philadelphia Eagles agreed to a team-friendly extension with Carson Wentz, giving the star quarterback $107 million guaranteed, and $128 million total with the chance to earn more. For Eagles fans and the franchise, it was a great deal that locked up Wentz for years to come, while still allowing salary cap room and flexibility for the organization.

Wentz’s counterpart in the NFC East, Dak Prescott, is looking to get paid, and according to Jane Slater of NFL Network, he wants a contract worth $40 million per year.

It would appear that Prescott is hoping to be able to shoot for the stars contract-wise and land somewhere between Wentz and Russell Wilson in annual salary.

According to Jori Epstein of USA Today, the Cowboys have offered Prescott a deal that would make him one of the top-5 highest paid at his position, per EVP Stephen Jones.

The $32M to $35M expected for Prescott would still put him in the top tier of quarterbacks in the NFL for average salary and guarantees, per Over The Cap. For Eagles fans and opposing NFC franchises, the Cowboys overpaying for Prescott would be a win, while making it less likely that Dallas is able to keep the quarterback, Ezekiel Elliott, and Amari Cooper.
