Neymar sends message to Bayern Munich after tearful reaction to Champions League final

Devastated Neymar congratulated Bayern Munich on their Champions League victory after the Germans edged out his Paris Saint-Germain side in Lisbon.

Kingsley Coman's second half header was enough to give the Bavarians a 1-0 win and secure their sixth European crown, with the result ensuring that PSG are still waiting for their first.

Neymar himself had a couple of decent chances for a PSG side who more than held their own in the final.

The Brazilian star saw his early effort brilliantly saved by the impressive Manuel Neuer, while he also dragged a late effort wide as PSG tried and failed to force an equaliser.

After the match, Neymar could be seen sitting in the dugout in tears as his teammates prepared to walk up to the podium to collect their runners-up medals.

At once stage it appeared as though Neymar wasn't going to join them as he stayed in his seat, but he eventually made the trudge forward and had to walk past the giant gleaming trophy that was soon lifted by Bayern's jubilant players.

Any suggestion that the Brazilian was being disrespectful to his opponents was not apparent though, and he later tweeted his congratulations to Hansi Flick's side.

"Losing is part of the sport, we try everything, we fight until the end," he wrote.

"Thank you for the support and affection I have received, each and every one of you.

"And CONGRATULATIONS to BAYER [sic]."

That unintentional little spelling mistake at the end attracted the attention of Bayern's Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen, who responded to Neymar in Portuguese via their official Spanish language Twitter account.

They wrote: "Thank you, Neymar!

"I’m not sure why you congratulate me while I’m on vacation playing FIFA … but thanks."
