Neymar's under-construction mansion in violation of environmental laws, faces possible $1 million fine

A major construction project at Neymar's mansion in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has been halted by authorities due to environmental infractions.

The luxury property, located in Mangaratiba, was undergoing construction without the necessary environmental authorization. The mayor's office, prompted by complaints on social media, conducted an inspection and found several violations, including the diversion of a waterway and unauthorized extraction of water from a river.

Other infractions involved unauthorized excavation, movement of earth and rocks, and the use of beach sand without a permit.

The next step for the authorities will be to assess the irregularities and impose a fine. The estimated fine, considering the environmental damage caused, is expected to be at least five million reais (approximately $1 million).

Neymar's representatives in Brazil have not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the situation.

During the inspection, Neymar's father, Neymar da Silva Santos, was present and was recorded arguing with officials, as captured in a video published by the authorities and local media.

Neymar purchased the property in 2016, which reportedly spans 10,000 square meters (2.5 acres) and includes amenities such as a helipad, spa, and gym.

The 31-year-old footballer is currently recovering from a right ankle operation he underwent in March in Doha, Qatar. He has not played since February, and there have been speculations about his future at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
