A fleeting glance at the above picture and you could be forgiven for thinking the League of Ireland’s Limerick have signed one of the biggest names in football. But that is not Neymar – instead it’s a hitherto unheard of 16-year-old striker by the name of Barry Cotter.
Cotter bares an uncanny resemblance to the Barcelona and Brazil attacker – who has recently been linked with a move to Manchester United – and also appears to have a similar hunger in front of goal, pledging to score “at least one or two” goals in every game throughout the inaugural League of Ireland Under-17 campaign.
“I was delighted to come into the club this season,” Cotter told the club’s official website. “I’m happy that Dave [Dineen, the manager] signed me and I’m just hoping for a brighter future. It’s a massive opportunity – I couldn’t ask for anymore at this time.
“Hopes for the season – I’m looking for a top-three finish, and on goals I’m looking to score at least one or two in each game for the rest of the season.”
Cotter joins the club after spells with County Clare teams Avenue United and Ennis Town.
