Neymar compares fractious relationship with PSG fans to having a girlfriend

Neymar has joked that his relationship with Paris Saint-Germain fans is like having a girlfriend "you argue with" - after angering his supporters when he pushed for a summer return to Spain.

The Brazil international made it clear he wanted to leave France and return to Barcelona this summer but the transfer never materalised.

His actions angered his supporters, who unravelled x-rated banners at their Ligue 1 opener slamming their star man, as well as launching into an x-rated chant branding him a "son of a *****".

Two banners unveiled by the PSG Ultras said: "Neymar, **** off" and "Neymar - getting ****** by a prostitute doesn't only happen at a remontada - remember?"

Neymar was out injured at the beginning of the season but since returning to action, he has impressed and scored a stunning overhead kick winner against Strasbourg - but PSG fans have continued to boo him.

And after scoring the only goal of the game in the 1-0 victory over Bordeaux on Saturday, Neymar suggested he can win over the fans despite the unsavoury summer saga.

“It is like with women," he told reporters. "Sometimes you argue & spend some time without talking.

"However, with love & affection, you go back to normal. I am here to help PSG & I will give my life on the pitch.”

Meanwhile Kylian Mbappe's return boosted PSG as the France striker set up Neymar for a soft goal in a 1-0 victory at Bordeaux in Ligue 1 on Saturday.

Mbappe, back as a substitute after a lengthy injury, burst down the right flank in the 70th minute and Neymar just had to tap in as PSG reclaimed the league lead with 18 points from eight games.

They lead Nantes, who snatched a 1-0 win at Lyon, by two points.
