Neymar banned for three matches after insulting referee during PSG's defeat to Manchester United

Neymar has been banned for three Champions League games by Uefa after “insulting match officials” during PSG’s defeat to Manchester United.

The Brazilian was watching the second-leg of the dramatic round-of-16 tie from the sidelines, where United defeated PSG 3-1 at the Parc des Princes, having been ruled out through injury.

But in a social media post after the game, Neymar explicitly criticised the controversial last-gasp penalty awarded to United for handball against Presnel Kimpembe.

“This is a disgrace, they put four people that know nothing about football in charge of looking at the replay for VAR,” Neymar said.

“There is no penalty. How can it be a handball when it hits his back! Go f**k yourselves!”

Uefa’s disciplinary committee released a statement on Friday afternoon reading: ”The CEDB has decided to suspend the Paris Saint-Germain player Neymar Junior for three (3) UEFA competition matches for which he would be otherwise eligible, for insulting match officials.”

The decision means the £200m forward will miss half of the group stage for next season’s competition.
