Neymar and Kylian Mbappe to undergo 48 hours of treatment and evaluation on injuries, PSG confirm

Neymar and Kylian Mbappe will undergo 48 hours of treatment on the injuries they picked up on international duty before being evaluated further, Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed.

Both men suffered injury scares on Tuesday, with Neymar limping out of Brazil’s 1-0 friendly win over Cameroon with a groin strain and Mbappe requesting to be substituted after landing awkwardly when he hurdled Uruguay goalkeeper Marin Campana during France’s 1-0 victory over the South Americans.

Neymar reassured supporters after the match that his injury is “not serious”, but France coach Didier Deschamps sounded less confident about Mbappe.

PSG, who face Toulouse at home in Ligue 1 on Saturday before hosting Liverpool three days later in a vital Champions League group stage clash, classified Neymar’s issue as a “right adductor strain” while clarifying that Mbappe had suffered “a bruised right shoulder”.

A statement issued on the club’s official website read: “Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappe have passed exams today that confirmed:

  • for Neymar Jr an elongation of the right adductors
  • for Kylian Mbappe a contusion of the right shoulder

“A period of 48 hours of care will be observed to judge to clinical course [of action].”

PSG currently lie third in Champions League Group C, one point behind Napoli and Liverpool, having won only one of their four matches played in the competition this season.

Neymar has contributed 15 goals and six assists in 17 appearances across all competitions for PSG this season, while Mbappe has registered 17 goals and six assists in 18 club games.
