Neymar alternative 'emerges' and more Manchester United transfer rumours

Manchester United are ready to launch an approach for Real Madrid speedster Vinicius as an alternative target to compatriot Neymar, according to reports.

Having issued a triple statement of intent last summer, key figures in the Old Trafford boardroom are ready to turn their attentions to the upcoming recruitment drive.

Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo were the three marquee recruits they landed this summer.

Despite those deals, a report in El Nacional has credited United with an interest in PSG superstar Neymar.

However, while there is some suggestion that the Brazilian might be allowed to leave Paris next summer, the same article hints that Neymar is not currently planning on a move away.

As part of the suggestion, the publication say that Vinicius ought to be considered as another option for whoever permanently replaces Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the Old Trafford hot-seat - but he too might not be all-that attainable given his standing at Real Madrid.

Solskjaer was sacked this Sunday morning and Michael Carrick takes temporary charge amid genuine interest from United to appoint Mauricio Pochettino, a stance which is reciprocated by the Argentine despite his coy response to the media.

Elsewhere, soon-to-be free agent Jesse Lingard has been told that he would walk into the Tottenham side.

Cast aside by Solskjaer last season, the England international was sent out on loan to West Ham and rekindled his best form with nine goals and five assists in 16 appearances for the Hammers.

Out of contract next summer, talks between the Old Trafford giants and Lingard have stalled.

West Ham and Newcastle are among those to be linked with a January pursuit, but the United player might be the 'perfect fit' for Antonio Conte and his Tottenham project.

Who should United sign this January? Have your say in the comments section below.

That's according to former Premier League striker Noel Whelan.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: "I think he would get into that Tottenham side, absolutely. Dele Alli is looking like he's going to be surplus to requirements. Lingard could come into that squad in his place.

"Lingard is exciting, direct. He can create, score and would be perfect for Conte's style."
